Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper columnist Cynthia Tucker is leaving The Atlanta Journal-Constitution to teach journalism at the University of Georgia.

UGA and the newspaper announced Wednesday that Tucker will start Aug. 12. She's a longtime columnist at the Journal-Constitution who most recently served as the newspaper's political columnist based in Washington. The 56-year-old won a Pulitzer for commentary in 2007. Her last regular column appeared Sunday in the newspaper.

She will teach a course in persuasive writing in the spring after moving back to Georgia. Tucker said she's "thrilled to embark on the next chapter" of her career. The move is part of a multi-year partnership between the newspaper and the state's flagship university.
